Our History
The beautiful sanctuary in which we now worship was not always a part of the original church. Sierra Norwood Calvary Baptist Church has come a long way since August 30, 1986 when it was founded at the home of Sister Louris Dixon with 17 members, including Rev. Richard Ledgister. As the membership increased, meetings were held every Sunday at the home of Rev. and Mrs. Ledgister and later in the Cloverleaf Park Building situated in Miami Gardens. The church was then called Calvary Baptist Church. By the middle of the second year, the membership had grown to over eighty seven, with regular attendance at one hundred and fifty.
Eventually, Rev. Dr. Robert Norman, pastor of the neighboring First Baptist Church of Sierra Norwood, saw our plight and allowed the congregation to use the facility next door for church services. The congregations later merged to form what is now known as Sierra Norwood Calvary Baptist Church. Today, we are a vibrant growing church with approximately five hundred members, under the dynamic leadership of Rev. Dr. R. Ledgister.
